Oh really? You will? Dave, I'm so happy!
I had just about despaired of ever hearing your views on these subjects.

So you're not going to do an Anne Elk mode of address are you?
I mean I'm sure you have a theory but.........
You do realise that convincing me is vital to your cause, don't you? Since I'm a carpenter and JC was a carpenter that means if your arguments wouldn't convince me they wouldn't convince JC either, which would mean you weren't a true Christian. Wouldn't want that.

I just want to congratulate those who have been contributing to this thread and to the spin-off, for terrific examples, again and again, of how to combat fundy bullshit with facts and intelligence.

Re OA's stratigraphic columns of Egypt:

Afdave, I'd particularly like some mention of all those evaporites in the context of a Floode.

Which is what lead me to raise the topic of the Messinian Salinity Crisis.

Wonderful. Please do. Sometime this millenium would be nice.
Unfortunately our lifespans are limited to less than Noah's.

A fine example of how the Bible can be cross correlated with other histories is that all one has to do (according to the Ussher Chronology) is note that the flood occurred in 2348 BC. The Exodus occurred in 1491 BC. All one would have to do to correlate the ages of the pyramids is look at the historical data for either of those notable occurrences, and look for a historical anomaly either 848 years befor or after. Soooo, where exactly does the Egyptian historical documentation mention the (for instance) Plagues?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ussher_chronology
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Plagues_of_Egypt

But wait, it doesn't quite work, does it? A group of guys who were able to set up a complicated observatory didn't mention that their land was plunged into darkness for three days, and tie that to some major temple inscriptions or monuments?

The reason it doesn't work is because it didn't happen.

Ridiculous, BWE. The reason why the plauge information is not recorded by the egyptians and the reason why their pyramids seem to predate the flood is that they have been engauged in a massive coverup. Together with the Chinese.

Really, what are the odds that the Egyptians didn't notice either the Ten plauges OR the flood? If they were so obsessive in squirling away information for who knows what reason, wouldn't they make mention of a God who so completely kicked their asses?

I would perhaps expect an obelisk that had inscribed on it "look out for that god of Abrahams. He's a right bastard. If he's pissed about your labour practices, let his people go, and don't let him trick you by hardening your heart, either. Just let turn the silly sods loose and let them bang about the desert for 40 or so years."

Considering what a paradise the Egyptians considered the Nile valley to be, kicking out a scruffy collection of goat-herders and unruly, unreliable servants would actually be the perfect punishment.
