"And the Lord said unto...."
I see this phrase often in Bible passages. I am generalizing here, but how was this message carried out to the person for whom it was given? Were they in dreams? Burning bushes? In written text of some sort? Tripping on mushrooms at the time?
I know it's not ALWAYS going to be the same.....but I was curious because these types of passages make no sense to me until I know HOW the person received the message. Here are some examples that I am referring to: Ezekiel 9:4-6 (King James Version) 4 And the LORD said unto him, Go through the midst of the city, through the midst of Jerusalem, and set a mark upon the foreheads of the men that sigh and that cry for all the abominations that be done in the midst thereof. 5 And to the others he said in mine hearing, Go ye after him through the city, and smite: let not your eye spare, neither have ye pity: 6 Slay utterly old and young, both maids, and little children, and women: but come not near any man upon whom is the mark; and begin at my sanctuary. Then they began at the ancient men which were before the house. Joshua 11:6 (King James Version) 6 And the LORD said unto Joshua (how??), Be not afraid because of them: for to morrow about this time will I deliver them up all slain before Israel: thou shalt hough their horses, and burn their chariots with fire. Exodus 32:27-29 (King James Version) 27 Thus saith the LORD God of Israel, Put every man his sword by his side, and go in and out from gate to gate throughout the camp, and slay every man his brother, and every man his companion, and every man his neighbour. p.s. I was reading a link on Bible Atrocities and that is where the passages came from. The Lord seems like an evil prick but that is a discussion for another time. |

It is suggested that these types of messages are given by the audible voices of angels to the prophets. In effect, the prophets are hearing the voices of angelic ghosts. The entire Old Testament seems to be transmitted through angels and prophets, with no direct transmission by a 'GOD'.
