The movie is starting to get some press.

Aquarian Gospel

[Director] Heriot directed self-help documentary "The Secret," .... John F. Sullivan and Keenan wrote the script, inspired by two books -- "The Aquarian Gospel of Jesus the Christ" (1908) by evangelical preacher Levi Dowling and "The Unknown Life of Jesus Christ" (1898) by Russian anthropologist Nicholas Notovich.

...Jesus' journeys from Israel through India, Tibet, Persia, Greece and Egypt as he encounters people of all creeds, classes and faiths.

Producers plan on using actors from the Middle East, India, the Far East, Europe and America along with modern-day spiritual leaders in cameo roles, portraying prominent historical and religious figures that Jesus encountered
Hollywood Movie on Jesus' 'Missing Years' Draws Rebuke

NEW DELHI – Hollywood's production of a movie in which Jesus Christ visits the Indian subcontinent during his "missing years" may end up in creating confusion and controversy, expressed Catholic church leaders in India.

"There is no historic proof to show Jesus came to India and the Church has apprehensions that such portrayal could create confusion," commented Father Paul Thelekat, a spokesman for the Catholic Church in India’s Kerala state.

"I have personally investigated many of these claims and they remain what they first seem: fiction," responded John Dayal, president of the All India Catholic Union, which represents 16 million churchgoers. "I am sure it (the film) will make money but I do not think it will displace thousands of years of biblical thought."

There is a background to this which might not be apparent to everyone. Some may not know that extremist Hindu groups regularly organise attacks on Christian villagers in India, and that low-level harassment and discrimination is endemic. This includes attempts by Hindu-based parties to pass "anti-conversion" laws in various states (successfully in some cases) which are used in the same way as Pakistani anti-blasphemy laws -- to extort money and concessions by threats and false accusations.

The quotes above rather give a picture of insult and protests in the way that it happens in the US -- where no-one is really injured and it doesn't really matter. This may not be the case in India.

All the best,

Roger Pearse

Jesus coming to India would be a plus for the Hindu nationalists actually - they would be proud of it. They object mainly to missionary activities on the part of Christians.

Yeah, missionaries did SOME good. But unfortunately it was all tied in with cultural imperialism.
