A title is not a serious reason to dismiss a book but when I encounter a provocative title as the one in question I expect to find references to popular culture,marginal theories, etc

Some scientists are really good and worth listening but when they try to pass their message in a wide audience choosing to wear ties with Donald Duck on them... Oh well.

I certainly understand that there's plenty of wiggle-room for apologists (there always will be, after all). Price is forthright about the lack of absolute certainty in the conclusions he draws, as he should be. But unless you have a pretzel-shaped brain, well suited to the pretzel logic of the apologists, you can see his explainations of things like the peculiars of the occurance of John the Baptist in the gospels just make infinitely more sense than the contrived reasoning that fundamentalists have to go through in their rationalizations. It's called Occam's Razor, folks, look into it.

As for the pop-culture elements, they do play a crucial role in the book and in Price's arguments. They're not just there for the sake of sensationalism (although clearly I think that's what he's going for in the title).

And unlike televangelists, fortunately scientists are judged by the merit of what they present and not by the outlandish outfits they may or may not be wearing.

I first noticed this thread Wednesday, checked my local B&N Thursday, they had it in stock and away I went. Had been reading another book and forced myself to finish it first. The aniticipation caused by this thread was making me nuts. But well worth the wait. Only about 65 pages in, but WOW!

Only problem is I can't seem to put it down. Ain't nuthin' getting done around here and I've got a "first date" tonight (please don't be a fundy, please don't be a. . . . ).

Indeed!! Trying to work through, say, a theory on the Synoptic Problem is a mess without it.

How about MAPS!!!! Scholars love throwing around "Tel This" and "Kirbet That" and important bits of local geography with the condescending feeling of "If-you-don't-know-you-are-too-stupid-to-read-this."

. . . like using kerygma and parousia. . . .

So, Vork are you recommending it as a "buy?"
