Isn't it a bit of a stretch to retroject such a ritual practice some 2000 years into the past unto Moses and Aaron?

2000 years from today or 2000 years from the Life of Symeon the Fool?

You don't need to go that far back. I am only interested in establishing the origins of the Christian rite of brother-making. I have just been informed by Claudia Rapp that she isn't aware of Moses and Aaron being referenced in the later literature. Nevertheless there is the odd business of the two heretics mentioned in the Panarion who claim to be Moses and their brother Aaron. Noetus is the earliest reference. It is made in Hippolytus (or perhaps even his text of Irenaeus). I get the feeling that Polycarp is the source of this story because both 'the presyters' and 'Smyrna' are referenced in the account. I forget who the other heretic is. Some later figure.
