I'd bet on it this is what occured. There are pre-christian Roman and Greek archives of almost all NT doctrines. When we have no contemporary archives of 'ANYTHING' stated in the Gospels, even of a trial, it does not mean it is true by belief, but that it is a fiction.

The only genuine part is the belief has become genuine today - similar to an orphan being raised by non-biological parents, and an equivalent love and kinship has developed: the assumption of the NT to transcend, nullify and own the Hebrew bible is a farce. The same is seen with Islam - they have grown accustomed to believing Judea and its temple did not exist, calling it Palestine. Both these religions, which appeared within similar space-times, and on the assumption Judaism was dead - made a desired lie transcend a disdained truth - while the latter disdained truth has come hurtling at them like an unwanted tsunami or a non-virtual resurrection after 2000 years.

The Romans, as with the Pharoahs, were notorious liers, forbidding any negative descriptions even by its own appointed scribes [E.g. Josephus]. A scribe had to have every page approved by the sennet and emperor before sanctioning it. Some 2 Million Judean Jews were murdered because they refused Rome's decree of worshipping a human deemed divine - and those who did not object to this decree wrote the Gospels in latin [which Jews never used], and the reason we cannot ever find a shred of contemporary or Hebrew writings is for the same reason: it was written anew, much later than its declared space-time, and no Jews were involved in this work. It is the most unJewish writings in existence.

However, I do find one mystery here: the Romans and the Greeks never displayed some of the premises ascribed to Jesus - such as turn the other cheeck, bless your enemies, etc. While these are also not Jewish doctrines and premises, Rome had an exact reverse doctrine: woe unto the conquered and meek. So in a sense, there was a new enlightenment here - regretably mixed with other bad/wrong doctrines - which is a pity, because the Gospels would have made a greater religion if it did not contain vilification and robbery of another - which it attached to its otherwise sublime doctrines. The latter has just crucified its adherants in a quagmire: belief in God is now only possible when those villifications are also accepted! The unbelievers and infidels must be utterly destroyed - and a wink-wink, nod-nod is given them here by their lord and allah.
