Default Ark of The Covenant & Dr. Vendyl Jones?

This guy was mentioned on a liberal Christian site that I post on.
Has anyone heard about this guy and his claims?
I’ve googled him and found this:
LINK

At first I thought that he was connected with the wackjob Ron Wyatt but I guess this guy is more reputable.
So, if he finds the Ark of the covenant in August I have no doubt that this will be hailed as proof positive that THE END IS NEAR!!!! (But Jebus loves you) :devil3:

Comments?

To add:
Granted, Dr. Jones seems to be a wackjob too. I guess he is also big in the ultra radical Noahide Movement.

The famed archaeologist, the inspiration for the “Indiana Jones movie series, has spent most of his life searching for the Ark of the Covenant.
WTF???

I'm certain that Speiburg and Lucas will be astonished to hear that!

Yeah,
other stuff I'm reading on this right now says that this is a claim that Speilburg has denied.

He is no more reputable than Wyatt. He's not even an archaeologist, he's just a religious nutter who digs in the dirt. He claims to be the inspiration for Indiana Jones, but that claim has been repeatedly denied by Steven Spielberg.

Here's a bit on this story from IBSS:
Quote:
First of all Vendyl Jones is not an archaeologist. He claims that his translation and interpretation of the Copper Scroll from Cave 3 where some of the Dead Sea Scrolls were found, will lead to the greatest of all treasuries, the Ark of the Covenant. Yet all of his digging has not produced a single temple artifact. Scholars do not agree with his translation or interpretation of the Copper Scroll (More details in the June 1996 issue of Biblical Archaeologist, Vol. 59 No. 2). See also Is Mt. Sinai in Saudi Arabia?

Vendyl Jones has found red material that he claims is Temple Incense. Testing was conducted on the material. Kenneth D. McMurtrey states, "My interpretation of the available data is that the red material is soil of mixed calcite/dolomite limestone origin (primarily calcite) with an admixture of silicates, nitrates, phosphates and sufficient iron salts to provide a red color." (June 1996 issue of Biblical Archaeologist, Vol.59 No.2, page 85). It was not Temple incense as Jones claims.
He's just another crackpot basically, and an uncredentialled one at that.

If we ponder the obvious for a moment, we should realize that the Ark probably never existed. Considering that there was no Moses, no Exodus, no wandering in the wilderness and no revelation on a mountain, what would be in the damn thing?

Maybe the idea has its roots in some ancient practice of nomadic people carrying their gods around with them in a kind of symbolic litter, but the ark of Moses is purely a myth.

Yup... Poor choice of words on my part. The first couple of things I read on him presented him in a different light. Noahide Movement and prophetic musings has him firmly in the wacky camp.
