Hear hear! I've often thought that the wealthy try overly hard to appear pious in order to assuage their guilty consciences.

My favourite passage?

Matthew 6:5-6

"And when you pray, do not be like the hypocrites, for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and on the street corners to be seen by men. I tell you the truth, they have received their reward in full. But when you pray, go into your room, close the door and pray to your Father, who is unseen. Then your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you."

..what Joan of Bark said, and put Mr. Russert - as well as all the others - in his place.

I would hate to be the above-mentioned instrument as one would think that the Lord's piece would be rather on the large side.

While it is correct that GJohn records no Sermon on the Mount, I believe that the Gospel of John Edwards was delivered as a Sermon on the Hill.

Yeah, I know. Never miss an oppotunity to shut up.

Gal 5:6. The only thing that counts is faith expressing itself through love.

and

Romans 8: 38: 38 For I am convinced that neither death nor life, neither angels nor demons, neither the present nor the future, nor any powers, 39 neither height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God that is in Christ Jesus our Lord.

2 Thess 2:11

"For this reason God sends them a powerful delusion so that they will believe the lie."

I'm just like Pharoh. It's not my fault I believe in measurable reality, objective reason, and logical consistency - God wants me in hell.

For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.

Jas. 2.26

I think I'd have to agree with the candidate - the Sermon on the Mount probably tops the list. Various Psalms and Proverbs do as well. And Ecclesiastes. And Ben Sirah.
