Uhh, Read a little closer
BeanPie,
Having read your OP, I would think that you haven't actually read Rev 17, in which the identity of the "wOB" is spelled out quite clearly. Quote:
Note, the references to scarlet, 7 heads, 10 horns. If we read a bit further down at 7 the author says ; "I will tell thee the mystery of the woman, and of the beast that carrieth her, which hath the seven heads and ten horns." Ahh, so he is going to tell us. (Remember from Daniel that "horns" usually refer to Kings/leaders/ etc. ) 17:9 17:9 And here is the mind which hath wisdom. The seven heads are seven mountains, on which the woman sitteth. 17:12 And the ten horns which thou sawest are ten kings, which have received no kingdom as yet; but receive power as kings one hour with the beast. 17:15 And he saith unto me, The waters which thou sawest, where the whore sitteth, are peoples, and multitudes, and nations, and tongues. OK, what famous city, which was he center of the world at that time, contained 7 hills, whose emperor wore the color scarlet, who controlled many peoples, nations and tongues, and was contemporary with this author ? There was also a period of many Emperors in a very short time. The answer is simple, the "WOB" is Rome, the Rome of the time of the author. You should recognize this genre of literature as "apocalyptic", like parts of Daniel, Baruch, and Esdras. What this author was doing was creating a comparison between the Hebrew Nation of the past and its relationship to the Babylonians (Remembr the conquest of Judea by Babylon occurred several centuries earlier ), with the current (in the author's time and locale)situation of the Jewish or Christian people and their relationship to the empire of Rome. I believe that it is as simple as that, and the author gives some pretty strong indicators that Rome is to which he refers. There is no mystery or secret here, the author tells us who it was, and tells us as much. In the meantime, remember me with the other poster, send me some of what you are smoking ! |

Gerald,
Please go to a site of the Koran and enter, "people of the book", in the search engine. This phrase refers to the "Christians". |

Then perhaps you should enlighten all of us with your empirical facts concerning this 'mysterious' babylon...
[Troll comment removed - MD] No. On the other hand, why not just come out and say what you have to say? Why be so mysterious? Why would you counter claims with "well that is your opinion" without demonstrating how the argument is flawed? I sense the chip on your shoulder even through the text. Need an ego boost? Hit a self help forum. Want good discussion? Then come here and treat people with respect and dignity. |

What would be very disrespectful, would be for someone to "pretend" there was. This is a case, where people may, "take it or leave it alone". |

This is the Internet Infidels Discussion Forums. Since you like definitions: Discussion 1. Consideration of a subject by a group; an earnest conversation. 2. A formal discourse on a topic; an exposition. If you have no desire to actually discuss a topic, why do you present it as a topic for discussion? -Mike... |
