As the war progressed, Judah formed an alliance with Ben-hadad of Damascus. Baasha found himself surrounded by enemies both to the north and to the south. Because of this, Israel was forced to give up large amounts of territory.

This is when "Israel" (Samaria?) was forced to give up the Galilee to Damascus?

Anyway, the point of all this research into the history of Galilee, as you may recall, is to show that, since "Jesus" came from there, he was probably not much of a "Jew," ie: monotheistic Yahwist. And that may have been the original point, which was later covered up by the Scripture-mining in Matt and John. Jesus was the product of a currently Hellenistic society (from a region with a history of honoring gods other than, or alongside, Yahweh) which had a very weak understanding of Jerusalem centered monotheistic Yahwist theology. The Temple and its keepers were held in low repute by many "Jewish" sects of the day (and days previous), and since Samaritans and even a Roman centurion are held out as examples of superior people in the NT, perhaps we can suggest that this is an underlying motivation for the NT "gospel."
