Something for Christians to think about.
The Hebrew Scriptures{OT} promised that the meek shall inherit the earth.
Jesus also said that the meek shall inherit the earth{Matthew 5:5} Psalm 37:9-11 (King James Version) 9For evildoers shall be cut off: but those that wait upon the LORD, they shall inherit the earth. 10For yet a little while, and the wicked shall not be: yea, thou shalt diligently consider his place, and it shall not be. 11But the meek shall inherit the earth; and shall delight themselves in the abundance of peace. God promised Abraham and his decendants the land of Canaan as an everlasting possession. Genesis 17:8 (King James Version) 8And I will give unto thee, and to thy seed after thee, the land wherein thou art a stranger, all the land of Canaan, for an everlasting possession; and I will be their God. Paul said that God’s promise to Abraham was a promise that Abraham would inherit the world. Romans 4:13 (King James Version) 13For the promise, that he should be the heir of the world, was not to Abraham, or to his seed, through the law, but through the righteousness of faith. Paul said that the gentiles would also receive the blessings promised to Abraham. Galatians 3:14 (King James Version) 14That the blessing of Abraham might come on the Gentiles through Jesus Christ; that we might receive the promise of the Spirit through faith. Paul said that the gentiles were also Abraham’s decendants and would inherit the promise.{the world} Galatians 3:29 (King James Version) 29And if ye be Christ's, then are ye Abraham's seed, and heirs according to the promise. But Abraham never even inherited even one foot of land. Acts 7:5 (King James Version) 5And he gave him none inheritance in it, no, not so much as to set his foot on: yet he promised that he would give it to him for a possession, and to his seed after him, when as yet he had no child. So Abraham never received the promise that God gave to him. Why would we expect that anyone else would receive an inheritance if God has not fulfilled even his "Premier" promise? Stuart Shepherd |

It might be better if you specify which promises you are referring to.

Paul's concept is that the promise was kept, but in a different (and better way) than Abraham imagined. Similar to the Delphic Oracle, much of the Hebrew Scriptures draws on riddle literature, where the meaing of a promise or prediction has to be uncoded. Certainly Daniel is no more than that.
Paul takes this to a new level and is not only "decoding" the promise, but seeing in it levels of meanings, from the literal to the anagogic. He is in short doing exegesis of the text, which would become the main way western people like you and me interpret texts (and the world) |
