Depends on your point of view. I say borrow.

Perhaps the French might be easier. Sorry.

The Gospel authors could have written their accounts based on borrowing material from the LXX. Is such an idea impossible?

Examples: Isaiah 7:14; Ps 22:1.

(and another)
Do the Gospels simply borrow material from the LXX (to construct their story) or does the LXX prophesy (about the life of Jesus)?
As Chris Weimer indicates, and I think it is the majority opinion here, the gospels borrow.

Logically the simpler explanation, if it treats all the question, is the preferable choice. Borrowing certainly is the easier choice.

The notion of prophecy that we have in the modern world is not that of the ancient Hebrews. The prophet wasn't necessarily a person who predicted the future but who dealt with the state of the world at the time of the prophecy. The christian use of prophets has turned them from social commentators to carnival fortune tellers.
