Default Writings of Jesus

Did Jesus ever write anything? Was he literate? I Know very little of the bible, I've tried to read it but it bored the hell out of me.

Jesus left behind no writings to our knowledge. The gospel of John claims that Jesus wrote on the ground (8:6-8), and Luke states that Jesus read aloud from the book of Isaiah (Luke 4:16-20). The factuality of these events is debatable.

According to the NT, Jesus did write or read, but it would appear he was not taught to read or write by man, but by the Divine or pre-existed as a literate entity.

John 7.15 And the Jews marvelled, saying How knoweth this man letters, having never learned?

I don't think Gods have to be tutored to be literate.

John 8.6....But Jesus stooped down, and with his finger wrote on the ground....

Is that really what ἐθαύμαζον οὖν οἱ Ἰουδαῖοι λ*γοντες: πῶς οὗτος γράμματα οἶδεν μὴ μεμαθηκώς says, let alone implies?

Is Jesus ability to read or how he came to be able to do so, really the object of the "marveling" noted here?

In order to avoid reinventing the wheel, please refer to this prior thread: Was Jesus Literate?

everettf, if you find the Bible boring, just try reading some of the more interesting stuff for a start. Song of Solomon, Job, and Revelation aren't so bad, and will provide you with plenty of fodder for arguing with Christians.

JC must have been literate otherwise how could he have written a reply to the letter sent to him by Abgar the Toparch?
Eusebius quotes it in full ["H.E. 1.13.10 Eusebius] "Jesus' Reply to the Toparch Abgar....":
"Happy you are who believed in me without have seen me!...........[several lines more]"

In fact Eusebius translated the letter from Syriac himself, "word for word".

So Jesus must have been literate.
Or........?

Um, if you find the bible boring, why don't you go down to the beach or something? Unless I misunderstand, don't you only have one life? Why spend it on something (a) boring and (b) untrue?

"Life's a beach, and then you dive..."

All the best,

Were you trying to bring atheism into contempt? If so, you could find few better ways than to post what you known to be untrue and do not believe yourself. Don't do this.

All the best,
