Default quick ?: was Hiram a title or a name?

Hiram, King of Tyre, helped both David and Solomon build their kingdoms. Considering the time lapse, it makes me wonder if Hiram, like Pharoh, was a title the Jews took for a name.

Anyone know, or know where I can look?

Thanks!

Hiram
Quote:
(1) A king of Tyre who lived on most friendly terms with both David and Solomon. . . .

Josephus (Apion, I, 17, 18) informs us, on the authority of the historians Dius and Menander, that Hiram was the son of Abibal, that he had a prosperous reign of 34 years, and died at the age of 53. . . . .

(2) [Hiram Abiff] The name of a skillful worker in brass and other substances, whom Solomon secured from Hiram king of Tyre to do work on the Temple. His father was a brass-worker of Tyre, and his mother was a woman of the tribe of Naphtali (1 Ki 7:14), "a woman of the daughters of Dan" (2 Ch 2:14 (Hebrew 13); 1 Ki 7:13 ff; 2 Ch 2:13 f (Hebrew 12,13)).
This makes it sound like a name, also the name of other men, and not a title.

except for the fact that David ruled 32 years after Hiram gave him stuff to build with, and then Hiram gave Solomon stuff to build with years after he took over...

I also have read a commentray that Hiram was a title for a specialist, which is why so many Hirams were sent to Solomon...

I'm writing a piece of fiction, which is why I care...

The original name is Ahiram, axi = "my brother"; ram = "high", "my brother is high/lofty" -- that's the Hebrew, but the Phoenician would be the same as they are both from the same liguistic family and are very close. A Phoenician sarcophagus from circa the 10th c. BCE was found with the name, Ahiram. The initial sound was lost later.
