The New Testament in Context
The idea is to produce a compendium of external references that in some way illuminate the interpretation of the New Testament.
A decent start can be found in the 30 pages of citations (just cites, not quotes) found in appendix two of Craig Evans's Noncanonical Writings and New Testament Interpretation (or via: amazon.co.uk). Please let me know what interest there is and concerns there are. I would tend to be more inclusive than exclusive, and to allow the reader to exercise his or her discretion on the relevance factor. On the other hand, there may be a use for metadata on the 'parallels', comments from people about how they may or may not be useful for illuminating the text. If my original e-Catena is any indication, there should be some interest in this. Shall we dig in? -- Peter Kirby |

You should also include the greek erotic novels and the hellenistic epistolary fictions.

Yes and I should also include the kitchen sink! I already said that I would want to be inclusive. But the main idea here is that the process of paralleling be collaborative. There is no way that I would be able to do all this myself. I need to work on getting my NT with English critical apparatus out.
