Default Roll Call for Greek Study

I would like to know who is interested or who will participate in the upcoming Greek study (wherever it is held).

So far I have the following people:

Rick Sumner
cweb255
Intelligitimate
Vorkosigan
Diogenes the Cynic
Mathetes
Ahab (?)
Amaleq13 (later/lurker?)
Ted Hoffman
Bryan Cox (Haran)
Chris Zeichman
Fran Prevas
Joe Wallack
"theostudent11"

I am pleased with everyone who's expressed interest. Please post here if you'd like to give it a shot along with us. Also, if you have a friend knowledgeable in Greek or who wants to learn Greek, please invite him or her.

I have already typed out all of the exercises from the "Greek for the Rest of Us" book. I also have written summaries of the preface and first chapter. I am in need of volunteers to write a summary for a chapter. If you would volunteer to do that, you have my gratitude.

I'm really looking forward to this! It should be fun.

best,
Peter Kirby

I've completed writing summaries of the first four chapters of Greek for the Rest of Us. I imagine that people are waiting for their copies of the book to arrive?

I'll probably be auditing as well.

Dear Peter,

I know Greek quite well, have published on ancient Greek and have taught it in college. I'll help out if you'd like and if there isn't a huge time commitment; I'm already overloaded, as probably most of us are. Main problem is that I can't figure out how to type in Greek fonts on this site.

Contact me publicly or offsite if you feel so inclined.

I'm not quite a beginner but I'd like to do some revision and move from classical to biblical Greek.

Hi ficino,

Thanks for posting. I'd be quite happy if all you did was read the posts/questions made in the group study and replied to some of them. You don't even really need Mounce's text to do that. (I will be reproducing the exercises for all to see.)

I am developing software that makes it much easier to type Greek (I call it "Greekpad"). It currently is a Windows program, but I could possibly make it a web program.

best,
Peter Kirby

Great, Peter, I'll be glad to. Almost nothing (note: almost, heh heh) gives me so much pleasure as "doing Greek" with people.

Just tell me what to do at each step. I'm still in the dark about the fonts. I have Sgreek installed on my computer, with which I can type Word documents, but I haven't been able to do Greek e-mail. If the Yahoo thing can support Greek fonts, maybe we can all use that.

I decided that I would go with something that fits my vision of a temporary forum for a group study on a particular book. I will be leading the read-through of "Greek for the Rest of Us" at a forum entitled Greek Study with Mounce. This forum will be dedicated to learning the material in Mounce's "baby Greek" book over the next couple of months.

You don't need to commit to any amount of time, and I will help people follow along even if they don't have the book. I hope to see a lot of you introduce yourselves there!

best,
Peter Kirby
