I've always read that the age would have been 12 based on the claim that girls were married at age 13, and 12 was the time in waiting before the marriage, and they weren't married yet, so she would have been 12.
Of course, it's all nonsense and Mary is just a made up character, but still... |

Man as man is eternal and therefore needs continuity beyond his human condition and that is where Mary is the name given to the woman wherein man has this continuity. This makes for a whole bunch of things but one of them is that Mary is not human and therefore sinless, she is virgin, yes, and is virgin of virgins in perpetuity to say that without her human virginity could not even be. IOW (without apology), she is the essence of womanity that precedes its existence in form. Message for Toto: I read an article once that the body of Jesus and Mary are identical as far as they could be measured and compared with each other. |

And then there's another supposedly young fictional girl: the adultress. My NT teacher said that she must have been some 12-13 years old, because any younger, it wouldn't have been adultery, at the suggested age she should have been betrothed and thus capable of adultery, and if married the punishment would'nt have been stoning.
This reasoning would support the Mary low age span, but my derailing question is, what actions on this kid's part would have constituted adultery? The connection to the OT might be, what might Mary have faced if prosecuted? |
