In Bart Ehrman on the genre of the gospels ... , the topic of sources has been brought up.

I figured I'd start a new thread before the 'sources' topic pulled that one too far off the tracks.

Start with Michael Turton's Historical Commentary on the Gospel of Mark.

I don't know what else you want to discuss - the elusive oral traditions? You can search this forum for the term "refracted memory" to see the knots that NT scholars have gotten themselves into trying to find those oral traditions.

I'm not looking for the oral traditions. I don't expect to find them since they are obviously long gone: oral traditions die with the people who fail to pass them on.

Perhaps we might rescue this thread with some discussion of how much of the Gospels content and angelogical and dualistic ideas are drawn from The Book of Enoch, Maccabees and other non-canonical literature. vis Matthew 22:25-30 >

It should be pointed out that none of the non-canonical Gospels are based on any oral traditions. Apparently, the authors of those works were all deaf and could not hear anybody talk.
