What do you make of this? [Jesus spam]
I was sent this by a friend of mine who wanted some feedback on this. I thought I would ask all of you to give me some help.
"The Greatest Man in History Jesus had no servants, yet they called Him Master. Had no degree, yet they called Him Teacher. Had no medicines, yet they called Him Healer. He had no army, yet kings feared Him. He won no military battles, yet He conquered the world. He committed no crime, yet they crucified Him. He was buried in a tomb, yet He lives today. I feel honored to serve such a Leader who loves us! If you believe in God and in Jesus Christ His Son . send this to all on your buddy list .. if not just ignore it. If you ignore it, just remember that Jesus said ... "If you deny me before man, I will deny you before my Father in" |

What are you looking for? Jesus did have servants. Many, including Paul, James, and Jude, called themselves slaves. Moreover, you didn't need to have degrees back then to be called teacher; quite a few people without degrees were called teachers. In fact, all teachers back then were without degrees, as the concept was invented much, much later. And where is he called "healer"? The gospels do ascribe him using "magic", or miracles, to heal people, but this is quite ridiculous, as other, more reliable historians, like Tacitus, also ascribe Vespasian to doing the same thing - but do Christians buy that? Obviously not. As for conquering the world, "his religion", Christianity, may be the largest in the world, but it's actually losing ground to Islam, and weakening in it's strongholds. It has far from "conquered" the world. And not committing crimes? Well, according to Jewish custom, he indeed broke sabbath laws, as well as various Roman laws against insurrection. He may have been buried, but there's no credible evidence that he, indeed, lives today. There's as much evidence for it as there is Hercules being taken up to Olympus after he died.
I deny it, and I also deny his Father, too. |

As Chris pointed out, Jesus did have people who considered themselves his servants. Degrees were not required of teachers in those days, and medicine was very primitive, so any healing he did was psychosomatic. We have no record of any king fearing him (except the stories of Herod, which are not credible.) Maybe he committed no crime, but that hardly makes him unique. Maybe he was buried in a tomb, but he does not "live" today in the usual clinical sense of the word, only in the special Christian definition. The last paragraph is the giveaway. It is a threat that you will burn in hell if you do not participate in this chain letter-spam. The person who sent this may have the ulterior motive of trying to crash your Service Provider with messages sent out exponentially from various address books, like a Polish virus. That's why a lot of corporations would classify this email as spam and discipline you for sending it to your coworkers. |

What can you say, other than that it's just fluff? All assertions, no evidence. No evidence that kings feared him, that he healed people, that he lives today, etc. Also note the cowardly plea to send it onward if you agree, but to keep quiet otherwise. |

The feedback I was looking for was, how would you answer this ridiculous claim? I just wanted some different opinions on what was sent to me. My friend who sent this too me, had it sent to her, and asked me how I would respond. So I thought I would ask all of you as well.
