Because, I found it bizarre that anyone would consider Mara a source for Jesus. But I wondered if you did.

Which makes it sound as though the reader should take into account the perspective elucidated by the example when reading Thiessen and Merz. Is that what you are suggesting?

Yes. it what was a well-written and essentially conservative work, that sticks out as a spectacularly bad bit of thinking. I couldn't understand it.
