Default PEANUT GALLERY: Pervy vs. DavidfromTexas -- The "Gap theory" & Biblical inerrancy

This thread has been set up to provide a Peanut Gallery for a FORMAL DEBATE between Pervy and DavidfromTexas who will debate the following resolution:

“Resolved: the 'Gap Theory' of creation is not compatible with a Biblical inerrantist hermeneutic.”

Pervy will affirm and DavidfromTexas will oppose. The debate will have 4 rounds and Pervy will go first.

We ask that the formal debate participants refrain from posting in the Peanut Gallery until after the debate is over.

Enjoy the debate!

First comment from the peanut gallery:

H-e-r-m-e-n-e-u-t-i-c

Yes, it's a nitpick, but it really bothers me for some reason...the word is derived from the Greek god Hermes, not from Herman Munster.

Carry on...

Yes, it has been bothering me also...

Although I have no scholastic training or experience with the field of hermeneutics, I also recognized the spelling error in the proposal thread... and then spelled it correctly in my response... I was hoping that this would have been noticed, but apparently it was not.

Does the iidb have spellcheck capability?

DavidfromTexas - you are not supposed to post in the peanut gallery until after the debate is finished.

Hey, Chris, did you visit David's thread in Ev/Cr?

If yes, you should know that only this works with him:

We ask that the formal debate participants refrain from posting in the Peanut Gallery until after the debate is over.

Given this, I suppose Pervy's posts will be the largest we've ever seen in a formal debate.

On the other hand, wouldn't it be simpler just to use the word "explanation" or even "interpretation" instead, rather than using language that instantly makes the debate title understandable to a limited range of people, i.e. people with a technical (ish) understanding of Greek, or the time to spend searching Google for word definitions?

Just a thought.

Bravo indeed. He surely held no punches, even in the opening statement. I'm curious now as to what DfT will open with...

Either one of:

(1) LOL!!!
(2) WAKE UP!
(3) Circular reasoning!

My bet is on: all three of them.

No, I'm betting on a proper debate. I think this is one area (possibly the only area) where DfT knows his stuff. So there's a big difference right from the outset.
