List of fragments and copies
Hi all,
I'm sure this has been brought up before however, when I did a search I came up with too many hits to browse through. Does anyone have a list of fragments and copies of the OT and NT sorted by date? I've run into the old "we've got the orginals" argument and usually, I leave those kinds of things to folks who have more biblical scholarship knowledge than I do. Unfortunately, in this discussion, I'm the one with the most knowledge. That's about as scary as the argument itself. |

They don't have originals. Just about the oldest thing any of them can point to is P52, the Rylands Fragment, which is just a scrap of the Gospel of John, usually dated to around 125 CE. The oldest fourfold gospel collection is P45, and the oldest collection of Paul's letters (missing, strangely, the Pastoral epistles) is P46, both dating to 200 CE or thereabouts. Cheers, V. |

Reminds me of a prophesy about god sending a person to take the extant mss and determine the percentage of verses existing in each of the years 150, 200, 300, and 400.
