Default Jesusland is Zombieland

Jesus?.., No, just Bela Lugosi bringing people back from the dead in "White Zombie" (1932).

There seems to be more people coming back from the dead in early Christian literature than in the average zombie movie. Here is a short list.

New Testament Resurrections
  1. Lazarus (Gospel of John, 11) raised by Jesus
  2. Jairus’ daughter (Gospel of Mark .5) raised by Jesus
  3. Tabitha (Acts of the Apostles, 9) raised by Peter
  4. Jesus Christ (Four Gospels) raised by God?
  5. Eutychus (Acts 20) raised by Paul
  6. Many bodies of the saints (Gospel of Matthew, 27)
  7. Paul? (Galatians, 2:20)
Outside New Testament
  1. Youth in Linen Cloth (Secret Mark) raised by Jesus
  2. Panchares’ son Barnabus (Acts of Paul) raised by Paul
  3. Widow’s son (Acts of Peter) raised by Peter
  4. Senator Nicostratus (Acts of peter) raised by Peter

Can people add to the list?

Warmly,

Jay Raskin

Hows about this one?

Quote:
That bird in the country of Arabia, which is called the Phoenix, restored by the renovating juices of its flesh, after being dead comes to life again: shall we believe that men alone are not raised up again? Yet we know this by common report and the authority of writings, namely, that the bird referred to has a fixed period of life of five hundred years, and when by some warning of nature it knows that the end of its life is at hand, it furnishes for itself a casket of frankincense and myrrh and other perfumes, and its work and the time being together ended, it enters the casket and dies. Then from its juices a worm comes forth, and grows by degrees into the fashion of the same bird, and its former habits are restored, and borne up by the oarage of its wings it commences once more the course of its renewed life, and discharges a debt of gratitude. For it conveys that casket, whether the tomb of its body or the cradle of its resurrection, in which quitting life it died, and dying it rose again, from Ethiopia to Lycaonia; and so by the resurrection of this bird the people of those regions understand that a period of five hundred years is accomplished. So to that bird the five hundredth is the year of resurrection, but to us the thousandth: it has its resurrection in this world, we have ours at the end of the world. Many think also that this bird kindles its own funeral pile, and comes to life again from its own ashes.
resurrection
the number 500
common report and authority of writings

This has it all.

Try the smoked fish in the Acts of Peter? If it's humans you want, there are a few other resurrections in the main five apocryphal acts (Andrew, John, Peter, Andrew, Thomas). Probably still more in the rest of the apocryphal/folkloric literature.

Hi Philosopher Jay,

* Leucius and Charinus, the authors of the "Acts of Pilate" aka "Gospel of Nicodemus" are zombies

* Philip commands a sick ox to resurrect Ananias in the (Syriac) Acts of Philip. (Ananias PREVIOUSLY because of his blasphemy was tied by his big toes to the top of the mast of a ship in an extremely heavy gale by a christian angel under the command of Philip)

* Barnabas resurrects Paul (or vice verse) in the Acts of Titus (perhaps also Acts of Barnabas)

* Various resurrections in the Infancy Gospel of Thomas

Best wishes

Pete

Hi Philosopher Jay,

I was rereading the "Acts of Andrew and Matthias" attributed by Photius to the author Leucius Charinus, who's name seems to be comprised by placing together the two zombie scribes named as the authors of "The Acts of Pilate" aka "The Gospel of Nicodemus". I was wondering whether Zombieland might in fact be another name for the land of the anthropophagi?

If this is the case then Jesus apparently drove a water taxi to Zombieland in order to rescue the intrepid apostle Matthew from certain death at the hands of the zombies/cannibals. This raises the possibility that Zombieland and Jesusland might be two separate places, but that navigation between the two places is possible. Jesus's water taxi was the way. I think it had two legions angels in the back.

Best wishes

Pete

Moses makes an appearance in Matthew 17:3.Elijah is there also but since he apparently never died it's questionable if he can be labeled a "zombie."

Not zombie. Just myth.

Myth characters can live forever or transfigure.
