I have seen many people, when asked where Jesus claimed to be the same entity as Yahweh, reference the prologue to the Gospel of John "In the Beginning was the word..."

However, the Gospel of John does not present this as a saying of Jesus. It seem unclear who said it. I had though maybe John the Baptist (diagetically) said it, because he appears in the next paragraph.

When introducing a new vocabulary word, it helps to spell it correctly, so the audience can look it up:

I see nothing to connect John 1:1 to John the Baptist, myself.

Agreed. I see it as a christian reworking of the beginnings of Genesis with humankind given another chance at 'bat', told by a supposedly inspired writer.
