Default Essays on the western slave trade and the Bible

Are there any well-written essays on this subject on the net that you would recommend? I tried to google, but there are too many essays to choose from.

ETA: Maybe a more appropriate thread title would have been Essays on the western slave trade and the Bible's influence on it. I hope you now see more clearly what I'm asking for.

Why not start with the source material from the very
commencement of the pheomenom known as "christianity"
in the fourth century. You only need read the catch-22
sub-creeds attached to the Nicaean Oath, signatorised
by all but a few attendees, before the supreme imperial
mafia thug Constantine.

Here is the text (sub-creed number 18 of 22) ...

XVIII.
No one is to steal away someone
who belongs to someone else
and ordain him a cleric
in his own church
without the consent of the one
to whom he belongs.

Slavery was evidently built into the administration
of the new and strange christian religion from its
earliest inception, under Constantine.

Now I know exactly what I'm looking for: a thorough rebuttal of this kind of apologetics: http://www.wallbuilders.com/resource...?ResourceID=94

There is an excellent book entitled "Defending Slavery, Proslavery Thought in the Old South (or via: amazon.co.uk)" edited by Paul Finkelman. It's a compilation of antebellum arguments in support of slavery, including religious ones. It's not available on the web, but it's inexpensive and can be ordered through Amazon. The essy by Thorton Stringfellow called "The Bible Argument: Or, Slavery in the Light of Divine Revelation" had a great impact on Southern thinking before and after the Civil War. Forms of his Bible-based pro-slavery argument are used by white supremacist groups to this day.

Hope this helps.
