Yes or no: Can you debunk what Pervy had to say? If so, why won't you do so now?

I've seen enough examples of what you have to say, and how it is allegedly "what the Bible teaches" when, in fact, it was not. What you claimed was simply what you believe and you used "proof-texting" (the citing of certain verses that at least have the appearance of support but, when examined, do not support your claims). For example, you posted a "Bible lesson" of sorts on public prayer, and it took me five minutes to compose a refutation of your position on the matter--a refutation that never got a peep in reply from you. That's just one example.

John, you are not "all that" when it comes to the Bible and what's in it. Get over yourself. The first rule of effective evangelism is "do no harm," but right after that is to show humility.

Those of us who don't believe the Bible is authoritative on the subject don't care, but if this is your "debunking" of Pervy, that is, if all you can do is assert, you haven't lived up to your guarantee.

I have to admit, I was rather surprised at that confession; but John has a tendency of posting without thinking, and my guess is that he didn't really want us to know that he had neglected his commitment here and was playing video games and watching movies, instead.

Surely you cannot expect to win a formal, public debate by dragging out your resume of relevant classes taken.

You got that right! But if it's far from the truth, why are you asserting it? I'm an atheist (no capital "A" is necessary), and I recognize many liberal Christians who believe what they believe and appreciate that they see no need to proselytize to me. In fact, fundamentalists are a minority of Christianity, sort of the "lunatic fringe."

I think you ran into a high, solid, wide brick wall when you took on Pervy, and that took you by surprise. Simple preaching is no substitute for actual debating strategies, especially preaching to an audience which does not necessarily share your presuppositions.

You lost by forfeit. You can't do any worse. (Unless there's an "over/under" line on which round you'll bail out.) And you only get one chance to make a good first impression, but yours here on IIDB has been fairly lousy. You have set the bar of expectations very low for yourself, and it will be interesting to see if you can clear that bar in your next debate.

Personally, I think Bible John deserves some credit for admitting he lost. If this had been Jason, he would be telling us that he was the winner despite the forfeit.
