Why Did the Hebrews Not Write on Tablets?
It seems to me that Bible literalists are on shaky ground when they argue that the early parts of the Bible go all the way back to the time of Moses. IS there a single shred of evidence that the Hebrew language even existed in a written form at that time? What is the first extant piece of Hebrew writing we have?
Why didn't the Hebrews write on tablets as the Sumerians and Babylonians did? Even the one piece of writing the Hebrews claim was carved in stone - the Ten Commandments - was convenitently "lost" along the way. It seems to me that if even part of the Bible had been written on stone tablets, it would lend a lot more weight to the argument of extreme antiquity that its advocates claim for it. |
