Farrell Till has died
It is with great sadness and shock that I report that Farrell Till passed away yesterday, October 3rd. Till's articles were some of the first I read when I began to question my religious beliefs.

John, can you give me a couple of examples of signature articles by Till? I'm not familiar with his work.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Farrell_Till
John Farrell Till, (born on April 26, 1933, died on October 3, 2012) and known commonly as Farrell Till, was the editor of the formerly published Skeptical Review and is a prominent debater against Christianity and Biblical inerrancy in particular, having published several critical articles of the inerrancy subject as well as skeptical examinations of other Biblical interpretations. Till was a Church of Christ minister and missionary,[1] but left the church in 1963 and later became an atheist. In addition to having editing The Skeptical Review, Till also runs the "Errancy" list, which discusses alleged Biblical contradictions and errors. He has formally and informally debated with numerous Christian thinkers and evangelists, including philosophical apologist Norman Geisler and Young Earth creationism advocate Kent Hovind. Till holds a B.A. English and M.A. English from Harding University. He is a member of People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, the National Center for Science Education, and the Council for Secular Humanism. |

It was my exposure to the articles of Farrel Till that first caused me to see the extreme discrepancies that exist in the Bible, and which finally cumulated in my rejection of Scripture as being the infallible word of any actual Deity.
He pointed out in "Yahweh's Failed Land Promise" where 'Yahweh's words' ('spoken' in the first person singular) clearly and unquestionably contradicted other of 'Yahweh's words' (also 'spoken' in the first person singular) TILT! TILT! TILT! Game Over! COCK-A-DOODIE! Dirty Birdy! . |

Thanks, John. I enjoyed his articles on "The Mary Magdalene Problem" and the 10 plagues of Egypt. His takedown of Turkel was a pleasure to read.

Sorry to see this, I will miss his tireless spirit and well researched articles, he really knew the bible well, was very gifted, and easy to read from. He even had the entire book of John memorized word for word at one time, don’t know if he still retained it later on in years.
I’ve lost one article from him that had to do with his take on the “right to bear arms” that I thought was quite good. I’ve been trying for some time to find it again, but to no avail. I first came across it some 20 years ago or so in a small publication called Freethought Today, but have never been able to find it on the internet. If anyone is familiar with it, I’d be very grateful to find this article again. |

I have a copy of a debate between him and Jim Laws of the Church of Christ. Jim Laws dropped out about half way through. He didn't seem able to answer any of Farrell's points.

Sad news. I've also read Till's articles during my conversion to atheism.
