Default Gen 10 Table of Nations (ethnological table)

It has been argued that Genesis 10 is not a literal passage, but a figurative one which issues a list of ~ 70 nations. Is there any valid or reputable dispute to this, or is this a consensus?

I have heard someone state what the names translate into English as, and what countries these would represent, however I would like to do my own bit of research to verify a source other than someone else's word.

My The New Oxford Annotated Bible with the Apocrypha has a list of maps which have the actual names for these countres (Javan, Tubal, and Cush are available for example), however I guess I'm looking for translations of the terms, or something to corroborate the Hebrew.

I know someone may say that the map should be sufficient. I'm ideally looking for something to present as a visual display to someone.

El and Asherah had 70 sons. When El divided up humanity he divided it up into 70 nations so that each son could inherit one.

You might want to draw a little chart showing each elohim and the nation they controlled.

Chemosh : Moab
Milcom : Ammon
Hadad : Aram
Dagon : Philistia
Baal : Canaan
Yahweh : Jacob
Qos : Edom
