Yes I second that. You must have changed your answer to my original question because I didn't see this link. Fascinating article.

But the gospel begins suddenly. It doesn't tell us who Jesus is. It's very odd.

About Andrew's link. A comment for a Saturday afternoon. Isn't odd that outside a few highly educated Christians like Andrew, it is mostly atheists and agnostics who bother to try and sort out the profound depths of the gospel. The Christians I know just think its a story about Jesus and that's it. A great man who everyone knew was special. They don't appreciate the genius of Mark. They can't fathom that the medium is the message here or at least a massive part of the message.

Agreed, but that doesnt mean we fill it in with imagination. We see the later authors did just that, I wont make their mistake since im trying to focus on the historical side more so then the mythology. I think Gmark left it out because he didnt know how, why or where Jesus was really born. I think he had his hands full molding the mythology around the OT and reality of Judaism crumbling around him. Writing with a hellenistic style of mythology and typical Hellenistic story telling. I think he tried the best he could to stay in certain guidelines for what he thought was the most plausible. |

I find the link uninteresting. Wow. Is the emphasis on "why" or "me" in "Why do you call me good?" Let's explore both possibilities and write volumes of analysis. And as it turns out, NONE of it was intended by the author who just wrote a fucking story down he heard from others about Jesus.
Sometimes I can't help but think that much of Biblical scholarship is nothing but complete bullshit. Sometimes I think of how amused the authors of the Bible or the Quran would be if they read all the shit that "scholars" find between the lines of their texts, when there's likely nothing between the lines. |
