Question Hell in the bible?

In the quran, it is written:

Quote:
4.56 : Lo! Those who disbelieve Our revelations, We shall expose them to the Fire. As often as their skins are consumed We shall exchange them for fresh skins that they may taste the torment. Lo! Allah is ever Mighty, Wise.
Then someone just told me that it is merely the description of hell, and that the bible is not so far from such description/idea.

Where?

Yeah. Both the Christians and the Muslims got their idea of "hell" from the Greek Taratarus. In the Greek NT texts the words Hades and Taratarus are used. Hades was later mistraslated into hell, along with Taratarus, but Hades isn't supposed to be a bad place really.

There are several descriptions in the Bible that are similar to the above mentioned quote, which in turn are similar to Greek descriptions of Taratarus.

It's not so much that religious texts like these are scary, even the God's such texts are describing that's scary. It's the ignorant individuals who take them literally serious that are scary. That's why I cherish forums like this so we can excercise our rational minds in order to push back and confront all the ignorance that submits to such beliefs.

I don't know where but that passage from the Koran does not make sense on it's own.

One point here is that to believe is the final ememy of salvation and that goes for the Muslims as well. Of course, Christians can never be saved because by definition they are already saved and can't even go to hell as Christian.

It is true that Hades, in Biblical usage, is merely the state of death, with its Hebraic counterpart in SHEOL. The English word 'hell' was used to translate both words, along with the Greek word TARTARUS, simply because the word 'hell' was used in Middle English of the the unseen and the ground/grave (it shares a common root with words like 'hole', 'hill' and 'hollow').

Hades/Tartarus/Sheol are to be contrasted with the Lake of Fire, or GEHENNA, which is the agent by which, according to the New Testament, all evil and death will finally be annihilated. The New Testament leaves no room for the bogus idea of perpetual torment. In fact, the term translated 'torment' in the Book of Revelation, and other words and images relating to the Lake of Fire, strongly hint that the Lake of Fire is purificatory, kinda like the Catholic Purgatory.

Faulty speculation.

Of course it isn't. Jayzuz invented hell. And he is supposed to be the kinder, gentler and the most forgiving of all the savior Gods. But what did he do when he invented hell. He just added insult to injury. At least the Gawd of the OT killed his victims once for all and it was over. But with Jayzuz, the torment and torture never ends. If this guy Jayzuz was ever a true historical person (which I don't believe for a minute he ever was) he was a raving lunitic and a crazed maniac. I'd be afraid to have him as a next door neighbor.

It begins when we enter the race and ends when we finish he race, I think Paul said, who added that it is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God because if we do not finish the race we will have spend the rest of our life while torn between heaven and earth while hoping that things will get better once we die.
