Michael II Paleologus, Dialogue with an educated Persian
I'm sure that everyone remembers the speech by the Pope in which there was a quotation about Islam from this work, and the violent objections that followed to the suggestion that a 14th century emperor whose kingdom was threatened by Islam might consider Moslems violent.
No English translation of this work exists. I wonder if one did, would people be interested to read it? If I commissioned one, would people buy it? If so, what sort of price would people be prepared to pay? Just thinking about the idea, you see. All the best, Roger Pearse |
