How to obtain inscription translation (Bryn Mawr Classical Review article)
I am seeking to obtain the details of two inscriptions
mentioned in this Bryn Mawr Classical Review 2002.03.16 article. The references to these inscriptions in this review are contained in the following. Can anyone advise how to obtain the english translations to these (presumeably greek) inscriptions. Many thanks: Quote:

Get the book. Sit down with a lexicon and a grammar and make some.

The only problem with this is that it appears
to me that the book is written in German (I could be wrong) in which language I am not passably conversant. I have emailed the author (below) but without success. Here is the Article Subject description and the first paragraph of the review: Quote:

How about some good web based Epigraphy databases?
Has anyone wandered into this field in this newsgroup? There seems to be a finite number of greek inscriptions. Classical database project. They wont be changing, perhaps new discoveries will be expand their scope. And can anyone tell me if there exists any form of international conventions relating to the Naming or Reference Number standardisation concerning inscriptions. I have recently read Elsa Gibson's "The Christians for Christians Inscriptions of Phrygia" in which all references to the perhaps 40 odd citations appear to be only those earlier plate number (ie: picture) and text and number references conveniently employed by earlier researchers. In the above aricle you will see another schema of reference being employed (eg: 16/32/04). In the long run one might expect some form of standard. Does one exist? Thanks for any information on this issue. |
