The concept that Satan tempted Eve is based on the Bible in Genesis 3:15 where God is making pronouncements to the five principals involved: the serpent, Adam and Eve, Satan and Christ. It is Christ and Satan who are the two "covering cherubs" depicted on top of the Ark of the Covenant. Satan is replaced by the "church" as the second wife of Christ.
Dude, you'd better tone down that kind of heretical talk or you won't survive the Tribulation! :devil1:

I wish more "fundies" (though the term is hardly applicable here) believed such non Biblical things, then the destruction of Christianity would be an easyer endeavor.

At best, because when God throws his snit, he comes up with this very literal interpretation of making snakes and human beings (Eve's offspring) enemies.
Ah, now this I agree with (trickster).

Nothing to your eye of interpretation, perhaps, but most consider there is an implication to "Satan" and that he/she was behind the serpent. But to each his own.

Satan is a cold-hearted murdering bitch set out from the beginning as a manslayer.

Your separation of a literal snake in 3:14 and a mystical one in 3:15 flows as smoothly as a lame snake on a bed of broken glass. If anything it is the other way around, but even that is unnecessary. Satan is completely superfluous in the story, so trotting him out is a lot like bringing a sheep to an orgy: it shows you don't quite get what it is all about while relying on a rather poor substitute.

Well, be that as it may, LOTS of people seem to know who Satan is and the Devil is mentioned in Revelation as well. But since this is "esoteric" obviously I can't prove anything, only share my view.

It's not "non-Biblical."

Exactly, and the serpent is actually a not too bad kind of guy. QED .

I was only talking about Genesis. I wouldn't dream of taking a sheep to revelations. Talk about a "cold-hearted murdering bitch" (Johnny boy, that is)!

This is a very positive development. Plus, it is only a short step from the trickster to Tom Robbins .

BTW, how does Beelzebub (mentioned in Mark, Luke, & Matthew) fit into the Satan/Serpent/Tempter system of things?
