Default Book Suggestions

In the next few weeks, after I finish my current 2500 page reading list, I'd like to read a book about the Bible. I'm searching for something along the lines of "Bible Summary" and/or "Who Wrote the Bible?" I'd like it be overall neutral about whether or not the Bible is actually true, and preferably something I could find at Barnes and Noble or Waldenbooks.

Thanks for any suggestions.

Don't Know Much About the Bible by Kenneth C. Davis is an excellent basic introduction to the book that Christians never read.

Lost Christianities (or via: amazon.co.uk) by Bart D. Ehrman. I'd say he's neutral in this book regarding the truth claims of the bible, since the emphasis is on the many varieties of christians in the early church.

As much as this is a really excellent book, it may not be a good fit for what the OP asked for. This book mostly talk about all the various christianities that didn't make it.

For some general information on the NT it may be worth checking out either A Brief Introduction to the New Testament (or via: amazon.co.uk) or The New Testament: A Historical Introduction to the Early Christian Writings (or via: amazon.co.uk), both by Bart D. Ehrman, as well.

Thanks for the suggestion. While digging through a closet I found an old book, Beautiful Bible Stories. Although evangelical in nature, it should be fine as a summary.

Early Christianity is something to learn about, so I'll look into the New Testament books. But something about who wrote the books of the Bible, and exactly how these books were selected and by whom is really what I'm looking for right now.

It should be titled, Who Wrote the Torah? It's good on the Documentary Hypothesis, but doesn't go beyond that.

Thanks, Julian.

I need to remember to search for book links on the Infidel's site first.
