JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2012: Expressions of interest
JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2012:
Expressions of interest Australian representation on FRDB BC&H discussion forum suggests that it is not impossible that Australians may offer unique and valuable contributions in this field. It is therefore here proposed that a public forum and/or meeting be coordinated at some future time (early 2012) at which researchers in Australia at that time might participate, and present their ideas in person. This is a general post to record expressions of interest towards the possibility of hosting a quasi-academic forum for the purpose of discussions concerning the place of Jesus, and the place and the chronology of "early Christian literature" in fields of Biblical History, and Ancient History. The venue, the scope and the scale of the forum will remain open until the extent of participation can be gauged. Sydney and/or its immediate hinterlands will be the default location. A date early in the year (JAN/FEB 2012) will be a default starter. Participation is envisaged in the following strands: 1) Preparation and presentation of papers 2) Editorship and publication of preceedings 4) Technical expertise in subject matter categories 5) Other, including project administration and management. 6) General discussion and coffee The phases of this project are: Phase (1): Expressions of Interest Phase (2): Fixing Venue: Call for Papers This post is a request for expressions of interest. Phase (1): Estimating the numbers (if any) JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2012 Please respond either here in this thread or via Private Message, as required. Best wishes Pete Brown JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2012: Expressions of interest N.b. The 2008 Gathering did not eventuate. Perhaps there will be more interested participants in 2012. |

Nice idea Pete, but I probably would not be able to attend as I live out in the donga in SA and our interstate travel for next year is already scheduled.
I'll watch the progress of the event and if I can make it because it ties in with our existing plans it I'll let you know. Once again, nice idea. |

Pete, I love that you are coming from a different direction than everyone else, and I like your website and the work you've put into it. But, ye gads, I can't think of a worse fate than being stuck in a room with you for a few days talking HJ and MJ. If you didn't feel the urge to fill nearly every darn thread with your theories, it might be nice to discuss things over a beer or three.
But I can just imagine the following: Don: So, what shall we have for dinner? Pete: Ah, dinner... like the Last Supper fiction made up by Eusebius, on orders from the Imperial Mafia thug Constantine? No, thanks. You might get me asking to go out to bowl a few Pygmies down a bowling alley, but that's about all. |

Seriously this proposed meeting is not a confession box - who FFS mentioned a closed room? A number of open air venues around the Sydney region have been included for consideration weather permitting. An expresso machine company has pledged support with barista service and genuine coffee, unavailable in the Americas. There will be live music at intermissions.
JESUS DOWN-UNDER 2012. Grass roots seminar in the Southern Summer. Contributory papers will be received. But no weapons will be permitted. |
