Default Elohim and Nephilim: definitive translations?

Hi, I notice that even today there seems to be arguments regarding the translation of these words and, in my lay opinion, equally authoratitive experts still don't agree on which to take as the correct meaning.
I have been reading some commentary by Moses Ben Nachman and more recent scholar Michael Heiser who says that the typical explanation that Nephilim comes from the Hebrew 'Naphal' doesn't fit Hebrew morphological patterns for a masculine plural participle.

Is there any new consensus on this matter?

Thanks.
