Default Useful 10 commandments

I'm post-slutting a little bit, as I asked this in Humor, but I thought I might get a faster answer from you fine folks in BC&H:

Does anyone remember seeing a list of commandments someone put together as a replacement for the original? I read them and thought, now why wouldn't a god put THESE out for us to follow instead of what the bible tells us? I can't seem to find them....

Also, here's another question.... since Jesus was a big proponent of the golden rule, and god is Jesus, why didn't god make that one number one? Actually, the golden rule isn't even IN the ten commandments! Sure seems like humans made up the bible rather than some divine guidance.

Thanks for your input.

Actually, the Golden Rule is Jesus' SECOND commandment. The first is: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your mind, and all your heart, and all your will, etc." The second is: "You shall love your neighbor as yourself." So, Jesus' first commandment isn't as far off the mark as the first of the Ten; "You shall have no other gods before me" as it would be if it was the Golden Rule.

Some would argue that Jesus' first and second commandments are sort of a "spiritualization" of the Ten. The idea is, previously people lived under Law, now they would live through love and grace. In so doing they would fulfill the commandments. In other words, they would "know" the right way to live and live that way because they WANTED to, not because they were TOLD to.

Of course, it didn't exactly work out that way...

Here's another set from the Library. I remember someone posting these in a thread a while back, but can't recall who.
