christmas festival 4th century?
The nativity festival ("Christmas") for "Jesus" seems
to have no compelling evidence before the 4th century. Why do you think that might be? Any ideas? Pete Brown Did Constantine Create Christianity? |

The idea that Jesus was born on the 25th of December is probably rather late eg late 3rd century.
Earlier suggestions for his birthday tend to choose other days see for example the discussion in the Stromateis of Clement of Alexandria Book 1 chapter 21 Andrew Criddle |

The main argument against it being 25th of December for me is Jesus' implied foreknowledge as the son of god. There is no way he would have arranged for his birthday to coincide with Christmas and so miss out on a valuable present such as a new chisel or a Black & Decker workmate.
