If I understand it (Magus will correct me soon); if a person never heard of Jesus, they are saved by their innocence. If they have ever heard of Jesus, and don’t accept him, then they damned to hell for an eternity. So if you think about, sending missionaries out to the hinterlands is dooming many of them to hell. The only other way out of this system is to believe in predestiny: the heathens don’t hear about Jesus because they were doomed to hell from the beginning. I’m not an expert, its just what I think is there crazy system.

that's not what I've heard, but I'm no expert. it just seems like a very silly and arbitrary system for determining the fate of one's eternal soul :Cheeky:

1: Jews who believe in evolution (quite a few of them) believe that God, even though we may have existed before, gave Adam the first soul. 2: Even if one commits and infinite sin, if only he/she believes in Jesus and asks for forgiveness, then he/she can be spared. So really, the infinite crims BS doesn't hold water.

On a kind of a tangent, but does anyone know where I can find some stuff about Jesus' resurrection? Is it highly discreditted or what is the status of it? I've been trying and I can't really find that much

The dead and resurrected god is a very common myth.
So common, in fact, that the Christians didn't bother to remove the name of the Goddess of ressurection, the Goddess "Easter," from her holy day when they co-opted it for themselves.

Well, I guess it all depends on what one's definition of "hell" is, huh.

Planets have gods' and goddess' names, too (i.e., Venus, Mars, Saturn). Does this mean the planets don't exist?

Why does God hand out infinite punishments for finite crimes?

Who said its a finite crime? The soul is infinite, and I would say theologically, your morality and conscience, as well as your motives are part of the infinite soul. And do you not consider some actions to be infinite? If someone murders someone else, they are committing a crime with infinite consequence. They ended that persons life for all eternity. How is that finite? Consequences and motives are important too you know - not just the physical act.
There are a load of inconsequential things that one can get sent to hell for according to the Christian faith. Some are so inconsequential that they could be compared to jaywalking. Yet the Christian God, evidently seized by a psychotic fit, doesn't turn a hair about casting people into either eternal suffering or eternal oblivion for anything from wearing the wrong kind of cloth to working on Sundays.

Not a lot of love, justice, or mercy in that.

I've been reading "Resurrection: Myth or Reality?" by John Shelby Spong. Very interesting, all this about "midrash" and such...

So you believe the godess of Easter actually exists? Wow, when did you deconvert? Besides rising from the dead aint no big deal, it happens all the time. Didnt you read that story (one of many) when the man woke up just before he was about to get embalmed in Africa somewhere?
