Default Mosaic found when prison was being built, evidence of Jesus

I was having a religious discussion with someone, and we got to the historicity of Jesus. He claims that recnetly, thay were clearing land to extend a prison in israel and they found a mosaic there claiming evidence of Jesus.

Can anyone tell me about this? It sounds suspicious.

It sounds like last year's find at Megiddo (e.g. Jerusalem Post). The find is a mosaic that provides evidence of a 3rd-4th Christian church, which is a big deal to archeologists because there are not that many. It is too late, however, to provide evidence for Jesus's historicity.

Yes it is that late. If it really dated 50, it would be plastered all over the media, and you wouldn't be asking about it here.

Actually the details of this church may refute the idea of a historical Jesus. I'm still waiting for publication of full translations of all the texts found, but so far the only translations I have seen refer to Jesus as a god. There are no images of Jesus and no crosses, only fish.

I forget the website where I found the most translations, but I remember that they all sounded like "some guy in the sky Jesus", not "some guy that died on a cross Jesus".

How does what a bunch of 3rd-4th century Christians think have anything to do with the historical person Jesus, or lack thereof? Unless you believe that in the 3rd-4th century NO ONE had yet considered Jesus an actual man, this lends absolutely nothing to your case.

3rd century is from 200 AD. If we have a church using fish symbols and talking about a jesus god, we have clear evidence of that perspective.

We also have evidence from the 150's of the orthodox version.

Two versions of xianity that early is of note and I thought confirms existing findings. But which came first? The orthodoxy admitted god- man parallels from other religions, and explained them as the work of satan, so the orthodoxy actually admit mj thinking was pre-existing their hj ideas!
