Graham Hancock's map
Graham Hancock is the author of the book Fingerprints of the Gods. It deals with supposed historical inconsistencies in regards to who built the pyramids, white skinned gods in the Americas, etc. While most of the stuff can probably be explained I did find his Piri Reis map to be intriguing.
The map, showing the eastern coastlines of the Americas and west coast of Africa also seemed to show the coastline of Queen Maud Land in Anarctica. The thing is, the map is dated to 1513 AD and the Anarctic coastline in question was covered in ice at the time and still is. It's also noteworthy that it's been covered in ice for at least 9,000 years. Hancock says that it's only been recently that we've been able to map this coastline using sub-surface surveying techniques to penetrate the ice. So how could a 16th century map show this feature of Antarctica? I'm sure someone here can explain this. Thanks. If this is the wrong forum for this topic then please feel free to move it. |

Piri Reis map
Graham Hancock talkorigins covers him here. also The Wild Side of Geoarcheology That's just a cursory google search, and I think that the last two links there should answer your questions. although I haven't read through them. But it looks like this topic should go to Science and Skepticism. |

A show on Discovery/ TLC/ History had deep radar maps(using data from NASA) of the Antartic landmass. Guess what. They don't match. Aren't even close.
Graham Hancock is sooooooo full of shit. He is as bad as Kent Hovind. Every crackpot assertion he has mad has been debunked. Hell, even the geologist guy that says the sphinx is 12,000 years old was busting his balls about ignoring evidence. If other cranks think your a crank, then you've got trouble. |
