Methinks someone asked a question a while ago if the textual approach applied to NT is used elsewhere. Well, apparently something similar is used with a twist, however. Authors of the Nature paper published in 1998, likened variant readings to mutations and used evolutionary algorithms to come up with the "original" reading.
