Why was John the Baptist so important?
Why would john the Baptist be so important for the gospel setting??
The gospel setting could have been just fine without him. The story of Jesus didn't need anchoring specifically in John's environment. Paul's Jesus did just fine in the epistles without resorting to the Baptist even a single time! |

Well, according to the gospel (Matt. 3:15), John had to be there to baptise Jesus, because as Jesus said: "thus it becometh us to fulfil all righteousness". But it's all just a story, you know.

Except of course that the author of Acts didn't know that since John's baptism was worthless!

John's baptism was not worthless, it was just a preliminary version before Jesus' followers came up with the upgrade.

But apparently the author of Acts didn't know that storyline. |

John the Baptist is important because it demonstrates that imaginary people can be mistaken for historical ones merely because of their appearance in the canonical gospels.

If John is the one standing below when Jesus introduced him to his mother he must be real and Jesus was just the way expose the inner sanctum of man.

In gMark, there is ONLY ONE verse where John baptize Jesus and that is ALL we have about the interaction of Jesus and John the Baptist, just a one single verse. Next, to show that John was NOT a mentor of Jesus it is claimed that John's disciples used to FAST but the disciples of Jesus did NOT fast like those of John. [u][b]Mark 2:18-28 - Quote:
There is ZERO indication that John the Baptist was a mentor of Jesus in gMark. |
