Testimonium Flav - 100% fake?
Are there any known scholars who are of the opinion that Josephus's testimonium flavianium is a complete forgery? That is to say, that every word of it is an interpolation?
A xian on another board was saying that scholarly opinion on the subject ranged from the extremes of 100% genuine to 100% fake. I can believe that some fundie scholars might be of the 100% genuine opinion, but is there really anyone who thinks it's 100% fake? |

Earl Doherty thinks that it is a complete forgery.
Steve Mason, after discussing the partial interpolation theory, states that once you have decided that part of the text is forged, it is not possible to be sure of what the text originally contained. While he does not claim positively that the entire text is forged, it is not a trustworthy source, and might as well have been forged. From Alice Whealey's paper on the history of the TF: Medieval Jewish scholars assumed that the TF was a forgery because they felt that it could not have been written by a Jew. Later Christian, especially Protestant, scholars accepted this idea. By the mid-18th century, the weight of scholarly opinion was that it was a forgery. So, historically, there have been a number of scholars who have held the text to be a complete forgery. |

And Ken Olson thinks that the entire TF was forged by Eusebius. See this thread on the TF
