Default Catholic salvation

Despite the conciliatory statements that come from Catholic spokespersons, including the Pope, isn't it still basic Catholic doctrine the there is no salvation outside the church?

Yes, they still claim extra eccelesiam nulla salus, "no salvation outside of the Church".

But some Catholics claim that some non-Catholics are really Catholics in disguise, and thus honorary members of the Church.
