Only a few scientific results against the accuracy of the Bible?
Hej
I got in a discussion with some Creationists :devil3: . They claim that there only are a few scientific results that contradicts the history of the Bible. I'm not a Bible fanatic, so my knowledge about the Bible is pretty slim (I'm still only in Deuteronomy). So how can I tell them that they are wrong? Any suggestions. (Note: Creationists don't bother to write) Cheers, Johan (Sweden) |

How many do they really need?
It largely depends on whether they are inerranists or not. If they are not, they can interpret any event into whatever form of science they need to to make a fit, or then invoke miracles, which are not scientifically testable. If they are inerranists, the six thousand year old creation and the world wide flood are pretty basic ones. There is no evidence of the Exodus ever ocurring, and precious little documentation that Jesus even existed. But many fundamentalists can also shoehorn "gap theory" into reconciling an old earth with a young earth. You really need to examine the specific arguments one by one. Norm |

Here are some science/bible mismatches that were presented in another thread, to a creationist who had no answer for them. Hope some of them are helpful.
Bible says man is created uniquely special, in God's own image; biology says nested hierarchy of primate hominids, and 98% genetic commonality with the chimpanzee. Bible says sun was specially created "for" the earth; astronomy says that suns are really "just" stars, and there's nothing special about "ours" compared to the untold billions of stars just like it. Bible says the moon creates light, for us; astronomy says that it merely reflects light from the sun. Bible says the earth is about 6,000 years old, give or take a few; Geology says it's more like 4.5 billion, give or take a few. Bible says there was a global flood; Stratigraphy says, "impossible." No record of it--in fact, the record that IS there directly refutes it. Bible says some men lived to be 900 years old; Gerontology says no one has even lived to be 200 yet. Bible says that believers can safely ingest poisons; Toxicology says there's a word for people who ingest fatal doses of poisons: "corpses." Bible says snakes can talk; Anatomy says, snakes don't have vocal cords or a larynyx. Bible says the earth shakes when God gets really mad; Seismology says that the earth shakes when energy is released from pressures along tectonic fault lines in the earth's crust. Bible says that unicorns are real; Zoology says, "never seen one." Bible says that droughts are a punishment from an angry God; Meteorology says that in areas of high air pressure, air falls instead of rising, which means no currents of water vapor are carried upward, resulting in no condensation and very little rainfall and generally sunny, cloudless weather. |
