Default Source Analysis of the Hebrew Bible and the Documentary Hypothesis

Though there doesn't seem to be much OT discussion going on these days, I thought I would put this out there for those who may be interested. Dean Anderson did something similar as a result of the debate with afdave regarding the "Documentary Hypothesis vs Tablet Theory" in this thread. I just read though that thread over the past couple days and thought how had I been aware of the group here at that time maybe I could have saved him some work.

The link below has a set of files I started a couple years back in conjunction with some reading regarding Biblical origins. I had dozens of misc files full of notes and decided the best way to organize was to put parallel with the text. Once the original file was started I began to delve into the Hebrew a bit. One of the first things I did was highlight the use of YHWH and Elohim which later led me to taking the time to do the verse-by-verse source identifications (Freedman) following the Documentary Hypothesis. I've since marked up numerous other things as well, doublets/triplets, anachronisms, puns, aetiologies, epithets, datable references, common verbage, etc...

The files are located here for those that may be interested in seeing the results: http://www.att.net/p/PWP-mg01 They are zipped due to the limited personal web space I get.

Odd, I also got the error once after logging out, but then my second attempt worked. I also just tried it from a second connection and it worked. If it's still not working for you let me know and I'll double check all the settings. I just put it up there today.

Did you use Richard Elliott Friedman's "Who Wrote the Bible (or via: amazon.co.uk)?" (1987) or "The Bible with Sources Revealed (or via: amazon.co.uk)" (2003)? Doesn't Friedman's version of the DH differ from the Wellhausen version?

On of the most complete descriptions of the various reconstructions through the time of Wellhausen is that of COMPOSITION OF THE HEXATEUCH: An Introduction with Select Lists of Words and Phrases (or via: amazon.co.uk) by Joseph Estlin Carpenter & George Harford (Oxford 1902). It was reprinted by Kessinger in 2007 and is in print, selling for about $33 (US).

The best parts, for me, were the 83 page appendix on Laws & Institutions, and the following 15 page appendix with a complete Analysis & Synopsis of the Hexateuch. The "Hexateuch" for those who didn't know, is the hypothesis that the first five books (the pentateuch) should be associated with Judges as part of a six book literary unit.

Yes, the identifications are from Friedman. Lots of work has been done in the years since Wellhausen though so I'd be surprised if their weren't any differences.

Thanks for the link. Maybe I'll pick up a copy and do a comparison.
