Licona vs Ehrman
Have you guys listened to the discussio/debate Licona and Ehrman had on the Unbelievable radio show?
Here's a link to the audio. I'm listening to it now, and it's good to hear Ehrman point out that most Nt-scholars are Christians, so when Licona says that most of them believe X, where X is a part of a Christian myth, it isn't surprising. Licona seems to think that most of the members of the SBL are non-Christians. |

I hear that a lot of them go to SBL annual meetings so they can drink in public. |

Right, but even though he would e.g. consider Catholics to be the minions of Satan, one wouldn't think that he would expect that other people, like Ehrman, would accept that.

I've noticed that evangelicals do not make this accomodation to the rest of us. It's like they are trying to claim the term ChristianTM

Is there a list somewhere of the SBL members? It would be fun to see if one could see the % of the members that work in a Christian institution (with a statement of faith) and what % of them are Christians.
....I just read that there are ~8500 members, so I won't be doing this :P |

This is incredible. Ehrman claims that the majority of SBL members are Christian, he can count the agnostics on his right hand. Licona brings up Crossan, who doesn't believe in God. Ehrman asks - but does he define himself as a Christian? Why yes, he does. Licona asks if Jesus and the disciples would recognize someone like Crossan as a Christian, and Ehrman says that Jesus and the disciples would not recognize modern evangelical Christians as Christian. But that's a topic for another debate.
This whole podcase is a bit bizarre. Licona is put forth as an "expert" but he sounds like an idiologue with a deficient education. He's picked up a lot of buzz words that he uses to explain the obvious contradictions in the Bible, but he didn't even know that there are credentialed scholars who don't believe some of his basic facts. |

I heard Licona debate Richard Carrier. I almost feel sorry for Licona - he is is just out of his league. Ehrman is obviously used to dealing with Christian students, so he never gets upset or angry, but you can hear him patiently explaining basic facts to someone whose mind has been warped by evangelical illogic.
What a waste. |

Licona sounded like a slightly more coherent version of everyones favorite mumbling apologist (his name escapes me now).
