Mary's House
Given the popularity of Mel Gibson's movie I thought some of you
might be interested in this. There is alledged archeological evidence for at least one of Anne Catherine Emmerich's visions (the same nun from which Mel Gibson got some of his material). I find it highly suspect. But other than saying that it seems unlikely I have no effective counter-argument to this. I will repost below what was sent to me. Brian M. Dean __________________________ Here is a fabulous and extraordinary story of the archaeological discoveries that support the revelations of 19th Century mystic and stigmatic Anne Catherine Emmerich, whose visions formed the basis of Mel Gobson's film, The Passion of the Christ! MARY'S HOUSE The extraordinary story behind the discovery of the house where the Virgin Mary lived and died In the closing years of the nineteenth century, the Aegean coast of Turkey witnessed three of the greatest archaeological finds of all time. The discovery of Ephesus and Troy made international headlines overnight. But the third - an unassuming stone house in an isolated forest ?was immediately enveloped in secrecy. On a remote mountainside overlooking Ephesus and the Aegean, a small stone house nestles among the pines and plane trees. It is as unprepossessing as it is inconspicuous, yet every year over a million people from all over the world come to visit it and drink from the spring that runs underneath it. But what is it about the place that attracts so many visitors? The fact that this is almost certainly where the Virgin Mary spent her last days. The very last mention of Mary in the Bible states that the Apostle John "took her unto his home" - and it is known that St John himself went to Ephesus. And in the fourth century, at a time when a church could only be dedicated to a saint if the holy person had actually lived there, the first church to be dedicated to the Virgin Mary was in Ephesus. Still, no one followed up these clues until 1881, when a Parisian priest, Abb?Julien Gouyet, came upon an obscure volume, The Life of the Holy Virgin, which recorded verbatim the visions of a bedridden German nun and stigmatic, Sister Anne Catherine Emmerich, who had died in 1824. In these visions, Sister Emmerich described in considerable detail the house where Mary died, as well as its location near Ephesus. Enthralled by the book, Fr Gouyet took it upon himself to go to Ephesus to see if he could find the house simply by following the nun's directions... for the complete story join my Dolourous Passion of the Christ group at: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/dolorouspassion/ _______________________________ |

"most certainly?"
Did they find a deed or something? Remember Glastonbury: Not only does it have Joseph of Arimethia's Staff transformed into a tree . . . okay . . . a cutting from the tree. . . Not only does it have a Chalice Well. . . . Not only does it have reference to Merlin. . . . It has the graves of Arthur and Genievere! --J.D. |

Why is this in the least trustworthy? A mentally deranged anti-Semitic nun in the 19th century hallucinates about a house where Mary lived and ascended to heaven, some true believers find something that they think fits the description.

Was it found on a toilet?
Then you know it is authetic . . . look for that "American Standard" seal of approval! Look for The toilet label, When you are buying a ossary, or shroud! Remember somewhere, The dealer's forging, A way showing, All your beliefs are true! And remember how he works hard, For museum budgets he's draining, A when police come knocking, He's denying. So remember, look for the toilet label. . . .! --J.D. |

Well, it does sound like a shithouse to me..
Does the 'general public' know that Mr. Gobson have made his film based partly on that halucinating nun? Btw, it doesn't seem to be that popular here in northen Europe. We mostly get newsbits 'bout how nuts the US fundies are behaving in regard to 'The Passion'... :banghead: It's certainly not percieved as 'historical' .. and 'Life of Brian' is hard to find in any Blockbuster these dayz |

The Life of Brian IS historical!!!
--J. "Jehovah! Jehovah!" D. P.S. To answer your question, yes the news has reported that he "took some details" from the vision of the nutcase, but it is not given its full import. Those looking for validation of their beliefs do not care. Facts never ever got in the way for them. |
